Introduction

My name is Hilary Adams! I am from Paris, Texas and am 21 years old. I have one brother and one sister. I am very close to my sister. I have two adorable nieces. One is seven years old and the other is three years old. I am really close to my family. I am from a small town and I went to a small high school. I graduated with 78 people. I went to Paris Junior College for a year before I transferred to OU. I moved to Norman and began school at The University of Oklahoma in the fall of 2012. I transferred here my sophomore year of college. My major is Planned Program with a focus on medical sciences. I am also pre-pharmacy. I chose to attend The University of Oklahoma because of the pharmacy school in Oklahoma City. I have an interview at the pharmacy school on the 24th of this month, so hopefully that goes well! I graduate in May with my bachelor's degree and am super excited about that! This semester I am taking my capstone and three electives. The electives include this class, a religious studies class, and a women and gender studies class. I am nervous about the religious studies class, because I have never taken one before. I love watching television shows. My favorite shows include The Vampire Diaries, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder. My absolute favorite is Grey's Anatomy. I am actually watching Grey's Anatomy while I am writing this post! I don't have any pets, but I will as soon as I move to a place that allows me to. I love animals! I work at Walmart. I have worked there for almost two years. I am a pharmacy technician. I love my job in the pharmacy. It is difficult at some times, but I enjoy the job so much. I am really looking forward to this year and this semester. My goal is to make this year better than last year!

  1. Oh, I hope you will get good news after your interview with the Pharmacy School, Hilary: exciting! We are friends here with the local pharmacist in the little town where we live, and it is really cool having a tiny little pharmacy here with someone who will answer all our questions and who also gives very good advice! Maybe for this class you would interested in doing something on stories connected with healers and healing in the Indian Epics. For example, one of the most famous episodes in the Ramayana is when the flying monkey god Hanuman brings back "Medicine Hill" (he just picks up the whole mountain and flies with it through the air), bringing the healing herbs back to the warriors who have fallen on the battlefield. There's an article here in the Hindu newspaper and trying to figure out just what kind of healing plant it might have been: In search of the Sanjeevani plant of Ramayana. Hanuman is like a divine flying-monkey pharmacy doing a special delivery, as you can see in the artwork, like here: Hanuman carries Medicine Hill ... it's one of my favorite stories in the whole epic! :-)

  2. Hi Hilary, I’m also from a small town and went to a high school about the same size as yours. I also have a niece who is about to turn seven, and like your niece, she was Elsa for Halloween. I also graduate in May and am taking nothing but electives. I took my capstone last semester and it was pretty time intensive. Like you, I am also a television junkie but I love bad reality television. Good luck with your interview and capstone this semester!

  3. Hi Hilary! First of all, good luck on your interview, that must be very exciting. I love watching Grey's Anatomy too, but I haven't seen the last two seasons yet. I have never really attended a small school. My graduating class in high school was made up of just under 400 students I believe, so I can't imagine what the atmosphere must have been like with only 78 students in your class. Good luck this semester, and I hope you are able to continue your journey in Pharmacy School at OUHSC.

  4. Hey Hilary! We had a class together last semester, and I just saw that we had this one together so I knew that I had to comment and say hello. Congratulations on graduating in May that is great! You are going to do great in you Pharmacy School interview! Your nieces are adorable in this picture... and that is one of my favorite movies so I know we would get along well. I also love Grey's Anatomy; it is one of my favorite shows of all time. I can't wait to read some of your stories throughout the semester!

  5. Hey Hillary, I am also from a small town just like you! I am from the Northeast part of Oklahoma. I actually know someone from Paris too! Her name is Cobi Barker. She is a athletic trainer for the baseball team. I am a student manager for the baseball team. I hope that your interview goes great!! I am also a huge animal fan! I can't wait to finally graduate and get a puppy and teach it to be a hunting dog!

  6. Hi Hilary, I have a good friend who is also from Paris. As you know, I also aspire to study at the health sciences center after graduation – maybe we’ll run into one another at some point! I have utmost respect for students – in particular pre-health -- who work while in college. I did so for the first two years and it made my life so much more difficult (forget trying to making it to open lab, etc. ha ha).

  7. Hi Hilary, it’s nice to meet you! Firstly, your nieces are absolutely adorable! Secondly, I hope your interview went well! It’s so exciting that you are getting to move on to another chapter of your life. I can only imagine just how excited you are excited to graduate and move on to pursue pharmacy! Grey’s Anatomy is SUCH a good show! I have watched every episode twice and I wouldn’t mind watching them again!! Good luck with graduation!

  8. Hi, Hilary! Your nieces are so adorable in that picture. I think it is cool that you came from such a small town but I can’t imagine graduating with a class of 78, holy cow. My graduating class here in Norman was in the hundreds, and it was the smallest senior class in a few years. I hope that your interview went wonderfully, and that you hear nothing but good news back from it! I also love Grey’s Anatomy and How To Get Away With Murder. I wasn’t able to get free time to watch Grey’s tonight, but man am I excited for How To Get Away, that season finale was such a cliffhanger. Anyways, I hope that your semester goes swimmingly and that you fulfill your goal of making this year better than the last.

  9. Hi Hilary, I am also from Texas although my high school was pretty big compared to yours. My graduating class was over 600 students! I hope your pharmacy school interview went well, I bet it was pretty nerve wracking trying to prepare for that. I'm sure you did great though! Good luck with all your classes this semester and hope everything else goes well!

  10. Hey Hilary! I was about to say "Woah, she's from Paris!" but then I saw that it was Paris, Texas... but thats cool too! Also, you're literally a fan of just about all the shows I watch! Did you have Shonda Thursdays too where you watched Greys Anatomy and then How to Get Away with Murder right after? All my roommates got together on Thursday nights just to watch those shows. They are so good. But aside from that, I hope you get into that pharm school and wish you the best on your interview!

  11. Hey Hilary! I've heard of Paris, but I've never been there. I know a few people who moved out there from around the Dallas area. You've got some great show choices! I'm not ashamed to admit that I watch Vampire Diaries. If you haven't already you should definitely watch the Originals as well! Congrats on almost being done with school and good luck as you move on to pharmacy school!

  12. Hey Hilary! I am so embarrassed that I didn't know we were in this class together! How are you doing? I hope that your last semester at OU is treating you well. I can relate to you on Grey's Anatomy. Luckily for me, some people that lived in my apartment before me decided to leave a few seasons behind. I am going to start working my way through those when I get some free time! You have to update us all on how your interview goes! I am excited to hear how it went!

  13. Hi, Hilary! It's awesome that you love your job at Wal-mart. And since you're doing something related to your pre-pharmacy major, you know you're going to like what you do when you finish school, too. That's great! It must be exciting to be graduating soon. Good luck with pharmacy school! Also, those Halloween costumes are so cute! I like Frozen.

  14. Congrats to graduation this year! Did everything go good with your interview? I am a little late reading your introduction, but I still thought I should ask That is crazy how you came from a graduating class of only 78 people. My graduating class had like 400-500 people in it. I bet that was a HUGE transition from you when you came here to Norman. I assume it was good to get away for a bit though. Nice to meet you!

  15. Hello Hilary! I hope you are enjoying OU. I can’t imagine moving from a small town to a big university! Congratulations on getting an interview at OU Pharmacy! I bet that you will get in. That is awesome that you are taking your first religious studies course. I have a minor in religious studies because I randomly took a class and fell in love with the subject. Best of luck with your endeavors!

  16. Hey everyone! Just wanted to comment on here to update y'all. I did not get into pharmacy school, but I am going to work for the upcoming year and reapply!

  17. Hi Hilary! Well I just read your introduction and was about to comment, and I read your above comment about not getting into Pharmacy school. I am so sorry to hear that! I am trying to get into medical school, and I know how devastating it can feel to not get in. However, you have great perseverance! I am sure you will get in next time. Lastly, I am not sure how large Paris, Texas is, but I was wondering if you knew Laci Coker? She is quiet a bit older then us, but I wasn't sure if Paris was a town where everyone knows everyone. Well best of luck, and keep your head up!

  18. Hi Hilary! I am so sorry to hear that you did not get in, but it is so great how positive you are staying. I can completely understand how disheartening that must be because I am still wait listed for a medical school, and not knowing where I may end up is building a lot of anxiety. I love all the shows you watch!! I have been watching on and off Scandal, but I always end up having to do other things. Your nieces are so ADORABLE by the way!!! I wish you all the luck with reapplying! You can do it!!!

  19. Hi Hilary! I am so sorry to hear that you did not get into the school, but there is always next year! I also did not get into nursing school so I think I will be working for a year too! I am also taking a women gender studies course too. I also have a brother and a sister. Good luck at reapplying and lets finish strong!
